Brompton/Bowden
Brompton/Bowden
Two inner city suburbs in transition from poor working class to arty and young.

Brompton/Bowden, Adelaide (0-5km)

Brompton and Bowden are two interesting suburbs. They were once heavily working class with small cottages. Large areas of the suburbs were once home to light industry and factories. Now, plenty of factories have been knocked down, making way for new townhouses, many are of the el-cheapo variety. A few students, professionals and arty types have moved in, giving the suburbs an alternative edge and cudos. There's a "pop-up" style art gallery that's open on Saturdays or by appointment, you can do bike riding tours of Adelaide from here, there's a fantastic Greek restaurant on Hawker St  (Taverna  Greek Psistaria) that's packed every night, and there's the Vintage Carousel shop that sells all things vintage. Brompton/Bowden won't be to everyone's liking but it is close to the city, and offers a community vibe.
Parking can be hard in some streets. Vibe: arty with edge. Shoe equivalent: Birkenstocks, Converse. Would suit: students, arty types, professionals with an alternative bent. Location: inner city. Distance from city centre: 3km. Direction: north west. Postcode: 5007
