Malvern
Malvern
A safe, family friendly, upper middle class suburb in Melbourne's south east.

Malvern, Melbourne (south-east)

If you are after a safe, affluent, leafy, upmarket, middle class family area with beautiful parks, then Malvern could be your thing. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone here who does not send their kids to a private school, or who is not a professional or does not play golf or listen to ABC Radio. Malvern has plenty of picturesque tree lined streets, and big homes with established trees to hang swings off. (More information below and to your left <<<)

There's not much to be disappointed about in Malvern, except for the property prices if you are thinking of buying there. This is not a cheap suburb to live in.

Malvern was and is home to some famous Aussies including former Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies, and Harrold Holt - a former Victorian Premier. He went missing in 1967 while swimming near Portsea beach on the Mornington Peninsula. It's believed he drowned.  So, how do you remember a missing, supposedly drowned leader? You build a swimming pool and name it after him, of course. The Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Centre was built in the neighbouring suburb of Glen Iris. The architecture is quite stark and some would even say brutal.

In fact, Malvern has had more than its fair share of political leaders. All of whom belong to the politically conservative side.

Malvern Gardens in Spring Rd is a great example of a Victorian park.
