Avalon, Sydney (northern beaches)
This is the place surfers and people who were into herbal teas during the 1970’s and 1980’s have ended up. And who would blame them. Avalon is a sensational place. It’s got a great beach, great views, plenty of trees, good cafes, and a welcoming village feel. Natural therapies abound. It's a very safe suburb that 's starting to attract developers and older retiring cashed up baby boomers. (More information below and to your left <<<)

On weekends, the village fills up with locals, who generally tend to be of an older age, with the style of inner urban-ites, but without the pretense. Sure, it’s about an hour or more away from the city centre by bus, but who cares when you have paradise on your doorstep.
The only downside to Avalon is it is rapidly changing from a laid back, chilled out sort of place, to one where cashed up baby boomers are moving to, opening upmarket stores. Still, the seaside village atmsophere predominates. But if all these flash shops annoy you, head to North Avalon - it's still low key.
Parking is no problem. The vibe: Aromatherapy. Shoe equivalent: Birkenstocks and Bally.. Would suit: ages 35+, people who are interested in the world and like discussing it over a cup of organic coffee or tea. Professionals, families, singles, empty nesters. Location: beach. Postcode: 2107. Distance: 40km from city centre. Direction: North East.
