There are Greek cake shops, coffee shops, cafes and even a Greek Australian Sports Hall of Fame. This is family and couples wanting to have kids territory.

13. BONDI TO BRONTE WALK Print E-mail

day-trip-to-Manly.jpgThis is one of the best walks you can do in Sydney and should be in anyone's top 10 list of things to do in Sydney. The walk will take you past some spectacular scenery. Just be prepared for plenty of others doing the same. Try it mid week if you want to avoid the crowds. Actually, it's recommended you do it mid week unless you like being in crowds.


Start at the beach and walk towards the Bondi Icebergs building at the southern end of the beach, then just keep following the path.

 

The path takes you past Tamarama Beach (also known as Glamour-ama Beach) and on to Bronte Beach. It’s about 45 minutes one way. There are several cafes at BRONTE. You can take the 378 bus back to Bondi Junction or walk back to Bondi.

 

Or you can continue the walk to Waverley Cemetery, which is a further 20minutes. The cemetery has multi billion dollar views and is the resting place of some famous Australians including Henry Lawson – a journalist and poet.

 

If you are still up for some more exercise and views, continue walking to CLOVELLY. This beach is popular with families and has a European feel to it. There's a cafe and kiosk to break up the journey. And nearby, the Clovelly Bowls Club is popular for a game of lawn bowls.


You can finish the walk at COOGEE (one way from Bondi will take approx 2 hours) where the old Wylie baths (ocean pool) may tempt some, while the Coogee Bay Hotel across the road may tempt others. Coogee has more of a family feel and a small main shopping strip with good cafes. If you are a fitness freak, you can continue walking all the way to South Coogee along the coastal path. The views are good. It's about 35minutes return trip from Coogee Beach to South Coogee.

Once you are done, there are plenty of buses to take you back to the city centre or to Bondi Junction.


GETTING THERE


Take the Eastern suburbs line train to Bondi Junction, and then the 381 bus to Bondi Beach. From Bronte to Bondi Junction take the 378 bus.

From Coogee you can take the 370 bus back to the city centre.
