Yarraville

    Yarraville, Melbourne (inner west)

Vibe: creative community

Location: Bay, 5-10km from city centre, Near VU

Rent: apartment rents are in the lower to mid range, house rental prices are higher

If Williamstown is the snob end of Melbourne’s inner west, Yarraville is the alternative community minded hip style-meister. And ya gotta love the gay boys. Had they not begun moving into Yarraville about 15 years ago and injecting life into the place, it would probably still be down and out. Now, Yarraville has a sausage king, a cinema, bars, cafes, restaurants, bakeries, organic food, and great yoga. (More info below and to your left <<<)

TOPIC: Asian family friendly suburbs in Sydney

Asian family friendly suburbs in Sydney 9 Months ago
We are a mixed Asian- white Australian family with small children looking to move to Sydney. Any ideas on suburbs that are ethnically diverse, so our children are not surrounded by just one ethnicity at the local school? Also not too expensive? But relatively safe and family friendly? A big ask, I know. Any ideas appreciated, we're pretty clueless at this point.
We were thinking inner west, but it all seems pretty expensive.
Thanks,
Jayne

Hi Jayne, Burwood and Strathfield will be good options. Otherwise Dulwich Hill or Marrickville. All are in the inner west which is a very friendly area. Strathfield can be expensive but it has a good shopping centre, plenty of Korean and other Asian shops, schools, good transport etc. Burwood is similar to Strathfield. You can't go wrong in any of the suburbs mentioned.
