Glenelg, Adelaide (6-10km)
Rent: house rentals range from medium to high
Vibe: holidays
Location: Beach, 5-10km from city centre
Glenelg is the best known beach suburb in Adelaide. It's got a busy shopping strip, good access to public transport, schools, eclectic architecture, and is a tourist draw card. It's the Bondi of Sydney but with fewer young people. During weekends and holidays this place gets packed with kids of all ages who head to the amusement park, while adults gravitate to the beach or one of the many cafes. Glenelg used to be a quieter place but development in the 1990s began transforming the suburb into what some locals think has become a rather ugly duckling. Best suburb for single girl in melbourne 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago

Hi
Im moving to melbourne from perth soon and i was wondering if anyone had any tips on the best suburbs for me?
Ultimately Id love to live in Melbourne CBD but price wise this may not be an option for me. So whats the next best thing? Ive heard good things about carlton and fitzroy?
Ill be wanting something that is walking distance to melbourne cbd, but that still has lots of cafes, shops, atmosphere around me.
Any tips you guys could give me would be a great help!
:)

Hi Cinderella,
Carlton, Fitzroy and Richmond are all good areas for singles. All have plenty of cafes and shops, a good vibe and are walking distance from Melbourne CBD.
Collingwood is good too but can be slightly rougher.
Hope that helps.
