Brighton

    Brighton, Melbourne

Location: Beach, Bay

Vibe: black, shiny 4WDs on parade

Rent: 2bdrm house $350 - $800

Man, come to Brighton on a weekend morning and you'll see what this place is all about. Firstly, you have to say Brighton with a refined accent. Brighton is an affluent, upper middle class, picturesque, family oriented, beach and bayside suburb in Melbourne's south east. It's popular with the over 45s crowd, and has its fair share of matronly style women with big blonde hair, bling and 4WDs (SUVs). (More information below... )

Cronulla - right or wrong move 2008/08/05 17:31 Karma: 0
Hi,
Back again for another go - after a great deal of searching I am stringly tempted to look around the Cronulla area as it appears to be beachside living at a more affordable cost. I need to travel to the CBD each day, but used to 1 hour travel on Londons underground.
Anyone any experiences or views on Cronulla?

Much appreciated, beers on me!

Rob

Anyone who lives in Cronulla, or the Shire, loves it. Everyone who lives outside the shire disses it and thinks it's unevolved. Those who don't like it say it's stuck in the 1950s in terms of attitude. It's quite anglo and given you are from London, you may or may not be aware that about 3 years ago there was a huge race riot in Cronulla between the Aussies and the Lebanese. Things have quietened down substantially since then, and I reckon most locals were embarrassed by what happened. But it certainly is more affordable, it is on a train line, and that's always a bonus, and it does have some good cafes at the beach. I think it might be a case of check it out for yourself. Put it this way, you could do a lot worse.

Right or wrong? It's all subjective. I think it's ok. The beach is great and yes there is a train line. why don't you just come down and see. if you are into cafe culture and inner city living then Cronulla won't really suit you but if you are ok with 'white bread' suburbs then you will be fine.
