Hi Bloggers
I am a Doctoral Student enrolled with the University of Sydney. I plan to get to Sydney end of July with my family of three.
a. Am trying to find some accomodation the moment we land in Sydney, which I hope would be a temporary one till which time I find a suitable accomodation on a more permanent basis.
b. After reading the splendid reviews on your site about the various suburbs, I am hopeful of finding an apartment in any of the quiet suburbs in the Inner West possibly closer to the Uni, please suggest of safe and secure areas that are calm and would suit a conservative family.
Kindly Advise

Hi Vijair,
If you are going to be at Sydney Uni and want a conservative type family suburb in the inner west, you may want to know that the inner west isn't exactly conservative.
There are some good family type suburbs around but they tend to be more community minded.
You could look at Burwood or Strathfield. Strathfield isn't not profiled on this website but it has some large homes in great streets, and a very Korean and Indian inspired shopping district. Burwood is more multicultural and mainstream, but is also very safe and has great access to public transport. It'll suit families very well. Otherwise, check out Haberfield or Drummoyne. Both are family type suburbs with plenty of parks and or waterviews. Haberfield has a strong Italian influence and Drummoyne is definitely popular with families. Hope this helps.

Hi Dave
Thanks a lot for taking time to reply to my post. I shall surely start looking out at the various options that you have suggested.
However, which of the suburbs have good connectivity by public transport. In addition to this, I am also looking at a suburb that is close to either the West Mead Childrens Hospital or Sydney Childrens Hospital, for my year old son.
Thanks again Dave.

Hi Vijair,
Burwood has great access to public transport. As for hospitals, Parramatta is close to Westmead Children's Hospital. Parramatta is very family oriented and is cheaper to live in because it's about an hour away from the centre of Sydney by car. However, there is an express train you can take from Parramatta which will get you into Central Station in 20 minutes. From there you can either walk or catch a bus to Sydney Uni. There are many buses that go past the uni. Parramatta has excellent public transport. It's just a matter of working out if you want to be that far out of the city centre.
The Sydney Children's Hospital is in Randwick. This too is a family suburb. It has excellent public transport, is very close to Coogee and Clovelly beaches, but it can also be quite expensive to live in. You would be able to catch a bus into Central station from Randwick and then walk or catch another bus. The bus from Randwick will take about 25minutes.

Adding to Dave's suggestions. I have been told that there are good Indian shops around Paramatta. There are lots of shops in general too.
Parammata in it self is quite a big town. A bit far from city. But if you dont need to go into the city often Parammatta is a good place to stay.

Hi guys,
You forgot to add that there's the ferry service from Parramatta into the city. I think it's about an hour or maybe slightly less, but hey, it's a great way to go into town. It's got nice scenery and is relaxing. But then, if you want to go to Sydney Uni, you will have to catch a bus from the Circular Quay where the ferry stops. That will make your trip about 90minutes one way.
