Brighton

    Brighton 3186

Rent: 2bdrm house $350 - $800

Vibe: black, shiny 4WDs on parade

Location: Beach, Bay

Man, come to Brighton on a weekend morning and you'll see what this place is all about. Firstly, you have to say Brighton with a refined accent. Brighton is an affluent, upper middle class, picturesque, family oriented, beach and bayside suburb in Melbourne's south east. It's popular with the over 45s crowd, and has its fair share of matronly style women with big blonde hair, bling and 4WDs (SUVs). (More information below... )

Family moving to Sydney very soon from UK 2008/07/03 20:31 Karma: 0
Hi all,

I have been offered a very good opportunity working in the CBD Sydney. My wife and I are from Europe and have young kids and would like to know where are the best beach locations to live within commuatable distances of Sydney.

Looking for a place by the beach that has things to do, but also calming and relaxed if possible. Looking to the east or north - say no more than 15 kms?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated from you.

Thankyou
Robert

Hi Robert,

If you want to live in the north then you could not go passed Manly. It has a lot of things to do all the time and is great for families. YOu can catch the ferry to work which will be a good thing if you are working in the CBD. The ferry trip is 30minutes. The only thing that could put you off is the rent. Manly is expensive.

If you want the east - try Bronte, Clovelly or Coogee. These suburbs are great beach suburbs that will suit families. There are regular bus services from each of the suburbs to the city centre. They probably don't have as much to offer in the way of activities as Manly but they are very good. I'd avoid Bondi Beach because it is more for young backpackers etc.

Maroubra is another beach suburb that's good for families. It's not as trendy as the other eastern beach suburbs mentioned above which may or may not suit you.

I would suggest Harbord which has recently had a name change to Freshwater and Curl Curl. They are only a 5 - 10 min bus ride north from Manly and the rents are a lot cheaper than Manly. Both locations are by the beach as well.

You can also catch the 139 bus to Manly (for the ferry etc...) or there is an express bus (E65)that takes you into the CBD within 30 - 40 minutes.

I would suggest using

and/or

for property searches
