Brighton

    Brighton, Melbourne

Location: Beach, Bay

Vibe: black, shiny 4WDs on parade

Rent: 2bdrm house $350 - $800

Man, come to Brighton on a weekend morning and you'll see what this place is all about. Firstly, you have to say Brighton with a refined accent. Brighton is an affluent, upper middle class, picturesque, family oriented, beach and bayside suburb in Melbourne's south east. It's popular with the over 45s crowd, and has its fair share of matronly style women with big blonde hair, bling and 4WDs (SUVs). (More information below... )

Dunno which forum to put this. But I think I must recommend this map.

It's the best thing for people who intend on getting around sydney (especially in the suburbs) without a car.

The free maps that you get from backpackers and hotels only cover the CBD and down to Central station, nothing on the suburbs.

The size is like a lonely planet guide and not too thick and I got it for $15 from kmart. I never leave home without it, likewise my umbrella

It was great for house hunting too. Looking for a rental place in the metro area is a real chore. Last saturday I had to see 4 places between 9am and 2pm in the inner west and sydney area. This map ensured that I did not get too lost.

Got a decent place at Newtown BTW. Very happy. Now, I can focus on job hunting.

I should add that I use the map together with the 131500 info line for planning trips.

http://www.131500.info/realtime/default.asp

The map doesn't do house numbers, and some streets are long, you may find yourself on the wrong end of it. The 131500 lets you put in numbers.
