Glenelg, Adelaide (6-10km)
Rent: house rentals range from medium to high
Vibe: holidays
Location: Beach, 5-10km from city centre
Glenelg is the best known beach suburb in Adelaide. It's got a busy shopping strip, good access to public transport, schools, eclectic architecture, and is a tourist draw card. It's the Bondi of Sydney but with fewer young people. During weekends and holidays this place gets packed with kids of all ages who head to the amusement park, while adults gravitate to the beach or one of the many cafes. Glenelg used to be a quieter place but development in the 1990s began transforming the suburb into what some locals think has become a rather ugly duckling. If you are a fan of john laws, know skye leckie, or want to check out julie singleton, anita keating, or just check out some suits - drop into the new woollahra hotel. We used to call it jurassic park - given its older clientele - but the multi million dollar reno has improved it all round and there's a new groovy bar upstairs. As a result there are younger people and some groovers. However, there's also a lift. So the jurassics still make it upstairs, but they're gone early, so dont fret.
Corner of queen and moncur ... You can eat up stairs also, and the wine list is good.

I love the term Jurassics for the oldies.
How expensive is the place, because it is Woollahra.
