Glenelg, Adelaide (6-10km)
Rent: house rentals range from medium to high
Vibe: holidays
Location: Beach, 5-10km from city centre
Glenelg is the best known beach suburb in Adelaide. It's got a busy shopping strip, good access to public transport, schools, eclectic architecture, and is a tourist draw card. It's the Bondi of Sydney but with fewer young people. During weekends and holidays this place gets packed with kids of all ages who head to the amusement park, while adults gravitate to the beach or one of the many cafes. Glenelg used to be a quieter place but development in the 1990s began transforming the suburb into what some locals think has become a rather ugly duckling. The welcome hotel is a great local in rozelle (almost balmain). Very relaxed - brilliant food. In fact it was one of the first pubs in sydney to offer top food at reasonable prices - a definite must. Make sure you go out the back to the beer garden... it's lovely on a warm summer day

Hi Sassy,
Do you know the street address of the Welcome Hotel? I could look it up but I am being lazy.
I have heard before that it's a great pub.

Hi Jonop,
sorry about the slow response (a year!!)
I am assuming you found it ok - but if you
didnt it's on Evans road...
Also - the Dudley in Woollahra on Jersey
Road is another goodie. It's good to stand
outside on the pavement on a warm summer
evening ... and there's some good pub
food downstairs in the restaurant!
Happy pubbing!
