Brighton

    Brighton, Melbourne

Location: Beach, Bay

Vibe: black, shiny 4WDs on parade

Rent: 2bdrm house $350 - $800

Man, come to Brighton on a weekend morning and you'll see what this place is all about. Firstly, you have to say Brighton with a refined accent. Brighton is an affluent, upper middle class, picturesque, family oriented, beach and bayside suburb in Melbourne's south east. It's popular with the over 45s crowd, and has its fair share of matronly style women with big blonde hair, bling and 4WDs (SUVs). (More information below... )

You should check out "Scared Scriptless" if you get a chance.

Sydney's longest-running improvised show!

Each week, teams of improvisors battle it out to win the love and laughs of a jovial audience in a plush, smoke-free venue.

The Clarence Hotel - Fridays at 8pm.

$5 entry. Food available.

The Clarence Hotel
450 Parramatta Rd, corner Crystal St
Petersham (near Norton St Leichhardt)

Try Will and Toby's Supper Club in Victoria St, Darlinghurst (at Taylor Square) - it's got a few pretentious people in it but you can overlook that.

Otherwise, the Uchi Lounge at 15 Brisbane St in Surry Hills is good - lefty, arty kinda feel.

Hugo's in Bayswater Rd at Kings Cross is popular but can also have a bit of a scene.

A friend of mine likes Madame Fling Flong. It's worth going to just for the name - 160 King St, Newtown. Retro Euro feel Bar. All ages. But don't let that put you off. Newtown generally doesn't attract teenagers.
