Glenelg

    Glenelg, Adelaide (6-10km)

Rent: house rentals range from medium to high

Vibe: holidays

Location: Beach, 5-10km from city centre

Glenelg is the best known beach suburb in Adelaide. It's got a busy shopping strip, good access to public transport, schools, eclectic architecture, and is a tourist draw card. It's the Bondi of Sydney but with fewer young people. During weekends and holidays this place gets packed with kids of all ages who head to the amusement park, while adults gravitate to the beach or one of the many cafes. Glenelg used to be a quieter place but development in the 1990s began transforming  the suburb into what some locals think has become a rather ugly duckling. Ok - I have waited years to go to Phamish. I dont do lines - and there's always a line. Now I know - it's for good reason. The duck pancakes are to die for, the seafood dishes are delicious, and the duck blossom salad is unbelievable. Not to mention that it's BYO, and corkage is .. wait for it ... $1. It wont break the bank - it's a must do dinner venue.

I am going again tonight - only warning - go early and be prepared to wait in line. You can always open your wine and sit on a stool outside and sip on your vino until they're ready. It's worth it..

Hi Sassy. A couple of questions. Were they open yesterday, coz I think they close on Chinese New Year. I went to Cabrammatta last nite expecting to see the festivities and most shops were closed.

And when you said duck pancakes, do you mean peking duck. I need to find a good place for peking duck.
