Hawthorn is a large, almost eclectic suburb. It has executives and upper middle class families who live in big houses and send their kids to posh private schools; and it has a university (Swinburne), plenty of students, a couple of cool cafes, cheap Asian food, blocks of apartments, and great public transport. It's niether stuffy nor grungey but a pleasant midway between both, so go check it out. (More info below...)
