Cappuccino, pizza, gelati and some good looking waiters. Si Si. Leichhardt is Sydney’s Italian fix. Norton Street is full of Italian cafes and restaurants. There's also The Forum (Parramatta Rd end) which is meant to resemble and Italian square, but more often acts as a navigational tool for planes flying to Sydney airport. Norton St also has plenty of bars, shops, health practitioners, beauty therapists, there’s an arthouse cinema which hosts international film festivals. There are bookstores, homewares shops, an organic butcher, clothing, shoes, JB Hi Fi, yadder, yadder, yadder. You could easily spend a few hours here at a casual pace.
And if you like the idea of fair trade, the Anglican church on the corner of Marion and Norton streets has a Fair Trade Fair every Saturday morning.
The architecture in Leichhardt ranges from Victorian single fronted brick homes to modern apartment blocks. Property prices here are not cheap. But this is a sought after suburb.
Parking can be hard on Friday nights and weekends. The vibe: fiesta. Shoe equivalent: Armani. Would suit: ages 20+, late night café owls, singles, couples, the young, the old, families, and professionals. Location: inner city. Postcode: 2040 . Distance from city centre: 5km. Direction: West.
