North Sydney
North Sydney
A business hub during the week, and very quiet on weekends.

North Sydney, Sydney

North Sydney is the third largest business district in Australia. It's an IT, finance and transport hub on the Lower North Shore. During the week, this place sees a lot of activity with business types rushing around doing their thing. But come weekends, the CBD almost has a ghost town feel. There are some good markets in North Sydney that give the residential part a lively vibe. (More information below...)

If this suburb were a shoe, it would be an Aquila (well paid types), and a DKNY

North Sydney has an Edwardian theatre, a great picturesque park with an equally picturesque cricket ground, well established private schools, tree lined streets, some grand Victorian architecture, and art deco apartment buildings with views.

At lunchtime it buzzes with business types in suits getting on with work, meaning there are plenty of day-time eating places, and a bit of eye candy. During the weekends, the popular thing to do is exercise in St Leonard's Park or catch up with friends for a coffee or lunch at one of the cafes in Miller St. It's the sort of place that would appeal to professionals who have a very active life or don't need to be in shopping or cafe heaven.

Vibe: business lunch. Parking: get the coins out to feed the meter, if you can find a spot to park. Location: lower north shore. Would suit: professionals, executives, empty nesters. Shoe equivalent: Aquila (well paid types). Postcode: 2060. Distance from city centre: 5.5km. Direction: north.
