Caulfield

    Caulfield, Melbourne (south east)

Rent: prices are in the mid to higher range

Vibe: families, churches/synagogue, families

Location: Parks, Near Monash Uni

Caulfield is not a place you could have a house party, drink all night, do stupid things and then throw up in the street gutter. This place appeals to families with a bit of moola in the bank, who like living in a pretty but almost anonymous suburb where nothing much happens and where quiet and privacy are cherished. It's a magnet for Hassidic Jewish families, and has some students. There are three parts to Caulfield: North Caulfield, Caulfield, and South Caulfield. (More info below and to your left <<<)

15. SYDNEY ARCHITECTURAL WALKS AND TOURS Print E-mail

day-trip-to-Manly.jpg
There are two organisations in Sydney that look at the city from an architectural point of view. Check out the streets, the pubs, private homes, the harbour and old suburbs to get a comprehensive view of Sydney - warts and all.

Sydney Architecture Walks charges $25 for guided walks by young architects. These guys don't just give you the building history, but also tell you the dirt - if there is any. (02 8239 2211) www.sydneyarchitecture.org

The AAA, Architecture Association of Australia, has 115 tours on offer, from a 90 minute tour of Sydney Habour, to an architectural tour of city pubs/bars, to visits through private homes, to an art and heritage tour of Parramatta. All tours are only held several times a year. Bookings are essential and costs vary according to the tour. AAA members get discounts or free tours. (02 8297 7283) www.architecture.org.au
