Bulimba
Bulimba
A cosmopolitan suburb on the Brisbane River popular with professionals.

Bulimba/Hawthorne, Brisbane (0-5km)

Bulimba is one of those places you could easily move to and never want to leave. It's a very self contained suburb with a cinema, a couple of great bookshops, good cafes, a village atmosphere, and it's on the ferry service to the city centre. Bulimba appeals to left leaning professionals, young families on above average incomes and people who used to be party goers in their 20s but now want something quieter, where they can read the latest book sans doof doof music. If this suburb were a shoe, it would be a Camper and a black work shoe

Bulimba is tucked away from the major roads so it's easy to feel like you are on holidays if you happen to live here.

It also has some great parks which are popular with all the locals.

The main road is Oxford St and this is where you will find cafes, a supermarket, clothing stores, a pub that brews its own beer, a great deli, and the ferry stop.

The architecture is dominated by renovated Queenslanders in very leafy streets, and some modern two storey townhouses that have gone up on what was once industrial land.

The views across the river are great. Nearby suburbs within walking distance include Balmoral, and Hawthorne which is a quieter version of Bulimba and was once popular with the hippy herbal set.

The CityCat ferry service can take you from Bulimba to nearby Hamilton - which is close to the Ascot race track; to New Farm - a very popular and attractive suburb with professionals, and great/cool cafes; or to the city and Brisbane's premier arts precinct at Southbank.

Parking: can be hard in Oxford St but not impossible. Vibe: cosmopolitan. Shoe equivalent: Campers and Colorado. Would suit: families, professionals, executives, older singles, couples. Location: Brisbane River, parks. Distance from city centre: 5km. Direction: south of the Brisbane river and east of the city. Postcode: 4171
