Albert Park is extremely pleasant. Wide tree-lined streets, Victorian architecture and an attractive village shopping centre with quality cafes help give Albert Park a bit of a chi-chi feel. Albert Park is one of the few suburbs in Melbourne where the shopping village is not ruined by a large amount of through traffic.
Shops in the village include an award winning book store, the most highly awarded ice-cream maker in Victoria, some good bars, and very good restaurants. It’s also home to the old Biltmore building - a grand coffee house built during the gold rush, as part of the temperance movement to give people an alternative to pubs and drinking alcohol. The building is amazing and has been turned into not so cheap apartments.
The streets and architecture in Albert Park are impressive. So what keeps it all real? The small number of public housing tenants.
