Victorian architecture, tree-lined streets, and a village feel.
Ascot Vale, Melbourne (inner west)
If this suburb were on the other side of the Yarra River, it would be highly sought after and property prices would be astronomical. Ascot Vale has plenty of Victorian and Federation architecture, tree-lined streets, good public schools, a large Italian influence, and a good, friendly village shopping strip. It has become popular with an increasing number of professionals. (More info below and to your left <<<)
If this suburb were a shoe, it would be a Colorado
Ascot Vale was originally built with the intention of making it a dry (non alcohol) area. That didn’t work.
This is a huge suburb with a good continental bakery, where names of famous racing horses grace the footpath of the local shopping strip, and it is home to Australia’s largest Body Pump classes (for all you gym nuts).
Ascot Vale stretches from Moonee Ponds Creek at one end to the picturesque Maribyrnong River at the other.
One of Melbourne's biggest crime bosses used to live here. He was gunned down in another suburb a few years ago.
