Docklands
Docklands
Waterfront living in the city, modern apartments, restaurants and plenty of wind (of the weather variety!).

Docklands, Melbourne (inner west)

Is that a gale force wind? Yep. So don’t step out on the balcony or you might suddenly find yourself doing an involuntary ‘up up and away’ Superman style. Docklands is about the windiest place in all of Melbourne and some bright spark decided to build thousands of apartments there. And more are on the way. It's Melbourne's inner city waterfront living offering. Property prices here are not cheap. (More information below and to your left <<<)

Aquila

For decades, this part of Melbourne serviced freight ships. Then urban renewal kicked in and the area was redeveloped into residential living. The idea was to create a whole new, diverse, waterfront community. Slowly, SLOWLEEEEEE, that is starting to happen. But at this stage, it is mostly home to professionals in suits and company HQs.

Food wise - it's mostly restaurants. There is hardly anything on offer in the way of supermarkets, green grocers, neighbourhood cafes etc. So if you are after an interesting cafe to go to for breakfast, hike it over to the city or get in your car and drive somewhere with soul.

Architecturally, it's got interesting business buildings and some interesting high rise apartment blocks.

As far as convenience goes, Docklands is pretty good. You can walk into the city or jump on the free City Circle tram, which is meant to be for tourists. Or you can leg it to the Southern Cross train station. Easy. You can also walk to Telstra Dome – a large sports arena; and be a hop, skip and a jump away from some interesting outdoor art sculptures.

If you like sailing and have a boat, you can park it outside your apartment, in the water.

Parking: be prepared to pay if you don’t have free parking. Vibe: Enough wind. Where's the sould?  Shoe equivalent: Aquila, Armani. Would suit: 28+, professionals, singles, some young families like it. Location: inner city. Direction: West.
