Moonee Ponds, Melbourne (inner N/W)

Dame Edna Everage made Moonee Ponds famous. The sparkling starlet hailed from Moonee Ponds in the 1950’s, which, at the time, was about as middle class and average as you can get. So, is Moonee Ponds still average? Nah. It has a strong Italian presence a pleasant shopping strip, great public transport, great architecture, and the BEST pizza in all of Melbourne. Moonee Ponds has a lovely park, Queens Park, with a bocce field, a duck pond, a very popular playground, and an outdoor swimming pool. The Park hosts an annual festival, has a nice rose garden, and is a hit with mums and kids.

The architecture in Moonee Ponds is predominantly Victorian and Federation with plenty of restored and renovated homes in tree-lined streets.

The main shopping strip, Puckle St, has a pleasant feel with good cafes and cake shops. Overall, this is a good suburb, and a family friendly place.

Parking can be hard around Puckle Street during shopping peak times. Restricted parking in some streets. Vibe: let’s feed the ducks. Shoe equivalent: Colorado. Would suit: families, professionals, singles aged 30+. Location: 5 - 10km from the city centre. Direction: North West.
