If this suburb were a shoe, it would be a John Fluevog

Prahran is probably the most gay friendly suburb in Melbourne. It has plenty of cafes including an absolute jewel of a place called Borsch, Vodka and Tears. The cafe scene is vibrant, there are several gay bars, and of course here is where you will find the ultimate market - Prahran Market - a foodie heaven and a yuppie magnet.

Chapel Street is the main shopping area where you can find everything from bakeries to craft stores, to Eastern European delicatessens, to vintage clothes. And Greville Street, once the domain of hippies, is now home to alternative style seekers.

Prahran has street after street of Victorian or Edwardian cottages that have been renovated. Warehouse conversions and apartment blocks are also prominent.

Parking: can be very challenging. Take the tram or train instead. Shoe equivalent: John Fluevog. Would suit: the unconventional, gays, those who like to question what's going on. Vibe: party, socialise. Location: inner city. Distance from city centre: 5km. Direction: South East.
