Applecross
Applecross
A riverside suburb south of Perth with great housing, views and parkland.

Applecross, Perth (south, river)

Applecross is one of the nicest suburbs in Perth. It’s an idyllic place which lies on the south side of the Swan River. It’s 7 km from the city centre, has Jacaranda tree-lined streets, breath-taking views of the city, and offers quiet suburban living. So if this grabs your interest, make sure you have some a lot of moolah in the bank because it's expensive to buy property here.

Applecross is popular with families because of its large open spaces, parks and plenty of entertainment for both kids and adults. When you first veer off the Kwinana Freeway, the iconic art-deco Raffles hotel, with a history dating back to 1896, welcomes you. Follow the Swan River, and you end up at Heathcote Reserve which has the best playground in Perth. Affectionately known as “the pirate park”, there’s a giant ship in the reserve, as well as BBQ’s and picnic spots.

Applecross is divided into two sections. Homes along the river or close to it are predominantly 2-3 storey mansions, while houses further away from the river are more modest workers cottages. Once people move here, they find it rather hard to leave. There are plenty of local shops and restaurants in Applecross. The  village shopping area has high-end shops and quality cafes  including the popular Clancy’s Fish Pub and award winning Thai Corner on Canning Hwy. Even the supermarket here looks fancy. Garden City Shopping Centre, a large mall, is a 5-minute drive away.

Transport is easy from Applecross. There’s a train station across the river at Canning Bridge. The suburb also has plenty of buses to Fremantle and the city centre.
