Each November welcomes the Beaufort Street Festival, where most of the businesses along the popular strip get involved with the community.
The suburb has quite a few properties on quarter acre blocks, with many Federation, Art Deco and California Bungalow homes. There’s a classic vibe to the area as houses have been generally well maintained or restored, aided by the Heritage Protection Area Plan. As well as these golden oldies, there are plenty of contemporary homes and units to suit younger residents.
There’s a huge student presence in Mt Lawley due to the proximity of tertiary institutions Edith Cowan University (ECU) and the prestigious West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). The suburb is also home to both a state high school and Anglican girls school.
There’s a train station to the east and there are numerous bus routes passing through the area.
