Mount Lawley
Mount Lawley
An inner city suburb great for hipsters, cool cats, students and families who like living in well kept homes.

Mount Lawley, Perth (inner north)

Calling all music lovers and indie kids: Mt Lawley awaits you. The latest cultural hub of Perth is inhabited by more hipsters than rolls in the ankles of their jeans. Arts and alternativeness rule the roost here, so if you’re interesting or just interested, get excited. You’ll love the range of shops, cafes, activities and clubs on offer.

The local drinking hole, The Flying Scotsman, is the choice hangout for some of the coolest folk in town, especially the local musos. Beaufort Street is a shopping mecca for stylish people with money. After you’ve sought out the latest pair of hip shoes from Highs and Lows, pop over to Cantina for a five-star coffee experience before you hit Planet to score your latest vinyl, man. Then why not scoot into the Astor Theatre to see the show you heard about on local radio station RTRfm, followed by a burger at Grill’d?

Each November welcomes the Beaufort Street Festival, where most of the businesses along the popular strip get involved with the community.

The suburb has quite a few properties on quarter acre blocks, with many Federation, Art Deco and California Bungalow homes. There’s a classic vibe to the area as houses have been generally well maintained or restored, aided by the Heritage Protection Area Plan. As well as these golden oldies, there are plenty of contemporary homes and units to suit younger residents.

There’s a huge student presence in Mt Lawley due to the proximity of tertiary institutions Edith Cowan University (ECU) and the prestigious West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). The suburb is also home to both a state high school and Anglican girls school.

There’s a train station to the east and there are numerous bus routes passing through the area.
Whether you care about being cool or just want to live someplace with lots of things to do, living in this lively suburb will give you instant street cred. Are you ready to get your hipster on?
