Large homes, tree lined streets and a sub tropical feel. A great place for families.
Balgowlah, Sydney (north shore)
Balgowlah is only two suburbs away from Manly but has a very different, quieter feel. It’s got wide tree lined streets, and big houses on big blocks, and well kept apartment buildings. At times, it almost has a resort feel. Balgowlah is a very relaxed and safe suburb that is more likely to attract families and older people, though young couples and singles priced out of Manly market are moving in. If this suburb were a shoe, it would be a Colorado (mainstream middle class)
Generally the village shopping centre is a pleasant strip with a bit of a country, and definitely a community, feel. There are plenty of parks in Balgowlah that hug the coastline and offer spectacular views. There are quite a few apartment blocks in Balgowlah but they tend to be smaller and many are of the Art Deco era.
Public transport is bus only. Though getting yourself to Manly and then taking a ferry is a more time consuming option.
Parking is never really an issue. The vibe: low key. Shoe equivalent: Colorado. Would suit: ages 30+, conventional types, families, professionals. Location: near beach. Postcode: 2093. Distance: 10km from the city centre. Direction: North East.
