Dee Why
Dee Why
A relaxed beach culture

Dee Why, Sydney (northern beaches)

New apartment buildings have gone up and younger people have moved in, but the old-style, laid back feel of Dee Why is still there, in volumes. This is definitely a family suburb, with all the bonuses of having a surf beach. On a sunny weekend, the beach and playground buzz with surfers, kids and people having breakfast at the beachfront cafes. (More info below and to your left <<<)

If this suburb were a shoe, it would be a thong and comfortable runners

Dee Why has a good mixture of different cultures and is a safe suburb. Housing is a mix of low-rise apartment blocks, and older family homes in hilly, tree-lined streets.

There are several cafes on the Boulevard with great views of the surf. Back on the main road, Pittwater Rd, older style shops dominate, with anything from pizza, to cheap clothing, to Indian spices.

Parking is usually fine. The vibe: a walk along the beach. Shoe equivalent: thongs, last year’s comfortable running shoes. Would suit: ages 20+, families, professionals. Location: beach. Postcode: 2099. Distance: 16km from the city centre. Direction: North East.
