Double Bay
Harbour views, beautiful streets, and no riff raff.
Double Bay, Sydney (east)Darling. Sweetie. Names!!! Don’t venture down here on a bad hair day. And, if you’re tempted to visit in a track suit, make sure it’s LaCroix, sweetie. This place is all about money, image, designer labels, designer dogs, and big bank accounts. It also happens to be in a gorgeous location. For the record, Double Bay also goes by another name - Double Pay. Mwah mwah. (More info below and to your left <<<)
Double Bay has beautiful tree-lined streets. But who would have guessed that in 1803 the area was a huge cattle and lettuce farm? Ya hah! Now, of course, it is shopping and cafe central.
The architecture in Double Bay is very appealing. There are plenty of well kept period homes and apartment blocks, paved footpaths and upmarket shops. The shops generally cater for the middle aged crowd, with interesting designer clothing and homewares stores.
There is a tiny, tiny beach with fab views across the harbour. Double Bay is one of the most affluent suburbs in Sydney, one of the safest suburbs in Sydney, and a magnet for those with high paying jobs on the other side of 45.
Parking is usually manageable, especially if you are prepared to feed the parking meter. Free parking is a little harder to come by. The vibe: Eddie and Patsy on valium.
