Vaucluse
A tunnel entry to Nielsen Park. Vaucluse is a wealthy, safe and conservative suburb.
Vaucluse, Sydney (east)Leafy, hilly, affluent, expensive houses, private schools, big parks, incredible views. Vaucluse is very much establishment. It’s about the closest thing you’ll get to a gated community without actually being one. This place attracts the more mature person, or someone with a healthy stock portfolio. Vaucluse is brimming with natural beauty - parks, historic homesteads, great beaches, bush walks. And it gets its name from a kidnapper! (More information below and to your left <<<)
Vaucluse is not party central, but more a place you'd happily take your dog for a walk on the weekends.
It is also a place where manners and status have a role to play. Which is ironic given the suburb takes its name from an historic homestead, Vaucluse House, built by a man called Sir Henry Brown Hayes. In 1802, Hayes was punished for kidnapping the daughter of a rich Irish banker, and transported from the UK to New South Wales as punishment. The NSW Governor thought Hayes was a trouble maker, and in order to get him out of Sydney, was allowed to buy land a few kilomteres away.
Vaucluse is now one of the five most expensive suburbs in Sydney.
