North Adelaide
North Adelaide
One of Adelaide's best suburbs with a strong cafe culture

North Adelaide (0-5km)

North Adelaide is about as vibrant a suburb as you can get in Adelaide. It is a cafe and restaurant hub and one of the best places to live in Adelaide, if you can afford it. The architecture is stunning, the streets are wide and leafy, there are plenty of shops and pubs, a cinema, golf course, a great pie shop, an impressive church, and the entire suburb (in 3 distinct parts) is surrounded by beautiful parklands. If this suburb were a shoe, it would be a black work shoe and a Kenneth Cole

The two main shopping/cafe areas are in O'Connell St and in Melbourne St. Both streets are quite busy on Friday and Saturday nights, and on Sundays. And both areas exude a village feel.

There are something like 14 pubs in North Adelaide. The transport is very good and it is easy to walk into the city from any part of North Adelaide through fab parks and gardens.

A lot of the housing is made from sandstone. The architecture ranges from modern townhouses to grand old homes on large, well kept gardens.

There is a private hospital here.

North Adelaide is walking distance from the University of Adelaide. The uni has several residential colleges in North Adelaide.

Parking can be a bit tricky around O'Connell and Melbourne streets on busy evenings. Vibe: life is good. Shoe equivalent: black work shoes, Kenneth Cole. Would suit: students, gays, professionals, singles, arty types, families with moola, empty nesters, couples. Location: parks, inner city. Distance from city centre: 3km. Direction: north.
