A great suburb close to the city centre. Because of its location, wide tree lined streets and Victorian architecture, Annandale has become a hit with down to earth, Audi driving yuppies, young families and professionals. It's a quiet suburb with a small but friendly and attractive village hub. And the price tags? Not cheap anymore. Annandale is quintessentially Victorian era Sydney with a Gothic twist. There are a few houses here called the "Witch's Houses" because of their witch's hat style roof. They're all in Johnston Street and include The Abbey, Oybin, Greba, Hockingdon, Highroyd and Kenilworth buildings.
During the 1960’s – early 1990’s Annandale was the domain of migrant families and working class families. These days it’s home to older couples with young kids, singles, gays, students and professionals. Annandale Village on Booth St is where many locals gather on the weekend for breakfast, or to check out some of the good small shops. Live grunge and Indie rock music fans will love the Annandale Hotel. About the only downside to Annadale is Parramatta Rd - a large and noisey major road with mostly derelict shops but also a few good surprises.
